Studio 5 Contemporary is a dynamic new contemporary art space in the heart of the Downtown San Rafael Arts District, founded by artists Sara Gallagher and Tubi Ho. The space functions as a gallery, working studio, and venue with a mission to amplify the voices of contemporary artists, bringing people together while being surrounded by high-impact artwork.
What we do
Art Gallery
We bring dynamic, high-impact contemporary art to the heart of the Downtown San Rafael Arts District. Featuring rotating group and solo exhibitions, the gallery highlights emerging and established artists from the Bay Area and beyond. It also serves as the primary showroom for co-founder Tubi Ho’s paintings, where she offers personalized consultation to collectors seeking their next acquisition.
Working Studio
The gallery also houses the working studio of co-founder Sara Gallagher, an award-winning artist known for her signature mixed media technique, which she has taught to students around the world. In addition to creating new work on site, Gallagher offers intimate drawing workshops and one-on-one artist mentorship to individuals seeking to deepen their practice in a focused, supportive environment. She holds monthly community-based discussions, which form the basis of her drawing concepts.
The studio also hosts visiting artists who lead workshops in a variety of unique techniques, enriching the space with diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary skill sets.
Event Venue
We are a venue rooted in connection. From live music and artist talks to pop-ups and workshops, the venue fosters dialogue, creativity, and solidarity across diverse audiences. The space is also available for both public and private event rentals. It has recently been utilized by local organizations, such as serving as the VIP Lounge for Art Works Downtown’s signature fundraiser, Artrageous.
