Grounded in the textures, tones, and quiet power of the natural world, Planted Earth brings together two distinct yet harmonious artistic voices— one exploring the organic beauty of botanical forms, the other delving into abstract landscapes of earth and emotion.
Through layers of color, texture, and form, these works invite you to pause and reconnect to the soil beneath your feet, to the rhythms of growth and decay, and the grounding presence of the natural world that holds us all.
Each canvas and botanic art piece speaks to a shared reverence for the earth— one that is both meditative and alive with energy. Planted Earth is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to return to the center.

Anna Trautman is a San Francisco–based botanical artist whose living sculptures explore the quiet tension between form and impermanence. Working primarily with kokedama, she creates minimal compositions that highlight the dialogue between hard and soft—vessel and moss, structure and foliage. Each piece invites close observation: the story of the plant as it adapts to its environment, shaped by both time and the artist’s hand.
Her process is methodical and meditative, unfolding through the tactile preparation of materials—collecting soil, tending roots, and forming clay into the rounded vessel that bridges earth and plant. This rhythm of making becomes a kind of flow state, where transformation is both physical and reflective. The resulting works are not static; they grow and shift, mirroring natural cycles of care, decay, and renewal.
When a piece leaves her hands, its story continues in the care of another. The new caretaker becomes an essential part of the work’s existence—shaping its growth, observing its changes, and tending to its quiet needs. Over time, the living sculpture becomes a shared expression of reciprocity, grounding the viewer in an awareness of impermanence and connection.
We’re excited to host Anna at Studio 5 to teach a hands-on workshop, providing you with an in-depth understanding of her botanical art process. The best part? Create and take home a living sculpture of your own!

Tubi Ho is an abstract expressionist based in Marin County, California. A self-taught artist, she works primarily with acrylics, pastels, and dyes on raw canvas. Her work explores the emotional complexity of the human experience through bold, intuitive gestures and layered compositions. Her brushwork brings a sense of presence and rhythm to each piece.
Ho’s creative foundation began when she studied Chinese calligraphy as a child. These early lessons were rigorous, requiring hours of disciplined practice to achieve controlled, aesthetically balanced strokes – skills that continue to inform her abstract work today.
As a first-generation Vietnamese-American, Ho grew up in a home where emotions were rarely discussed. This emotional suppression led to inner conflict that would later fuel her creative exploration. Seeking freedom of expression, she turned to visual art, particularly abstract expressionism. Soon after diving into this art form, she discovered deep parallels between abstract painting and Chinese calligraphy, noting that “both embody emotion and meaning in an abstract form.”
For Ho, abstract painting is a deeply intuitive and evolving practice. It serves as a way to explore vulnerability, identity, human connection, and inner stillness, while also processing subconscious thoughts and emotional experiences. Her work is both raw and refined; an ongoing search for resolution, understanding, and healing through visual language.
Over the years of engaging in dialogue with viewers, Ho treats these conversations as an extension of her practice. As her body of work continues to grow, so does her understanding of its emotional depth and meaning. These ongoing interactions offer new insights and perspectives, further enriching her exploration of abstract expressionism as a language of emotional connection and personal transformation.
